2G Internet Service Available Townships in Rakhine and Chan States.

AN. Sittway. August 8, 2020.

Myanmar government has been shut down internet services in 9 townships in Rakhine and Chin States since June 2019. It has reopened the mobile internet services in Maungdaw in this year, but the 8 townships are still blackout.

Myanmar government announced it has reinstated 2G internet services in Buthedaung, Kyauktaw, Maybon, Minbya, Mrauk U, Ponnaygun, Rathedaung townships and Paletwa township in Chin State since August 1, 2020.

Local people report the 2G Internet services only to send text messages. They said they cannot use Signal, Viber, and WhatsApp effectively to send text messages and photos. They cannot read news on webpages and Facebook and watch news on YouTube.

2G service is low digital radio frequency receiving from microwave towers, and it is unable to view larger texts and photos as well as video clips in terms of very slow connection.

Local people complain that it had better not to provide 2G service because it does not improve communication capacity at all.

Therefore, we have posted the mapping out of 2G and 3/4G services available townships in Rakhine and Chin States for the readers to understand which areas are blackout and open access to internet services.
